Well we almost did on 19th December the undersea optic fiber cables running from Europe to Asia were damaged and due to the result the Internet the and Phone Communication between Europe , Asia and the Middle East were damaged and since then users in Pakistan and several different countries have been experiencing problem, For me it completely went down for few hours and when it did start to work it was very slow we were getting close to dialup speeds but it has improved since but is not yet fully up to speed.
Three Optic Fiber cables named SEA-ME-WE4 (South East Asia-Middle East-West Europe 4 project), SEA-ME-WE3 and FLAG have been damaged which lie in the Mediterranean between Sicily and Tunisia, Its begin said that the SEA-ME-WE4 would be repaired pretty soon while SEA-ME-WE3 could be back in service by the end of the year but no timeline has been given for the third cable names FLAG the same cable which was damaged earlier in January.

I think the worst hit people were the ones using dial-up, because broadband and cable connections were restored to relative normalcy within one day. I use LinkdotNet’s connection, and browsing was fine within 24 hours of the incident, but download speeds are still waaaaaay down.
My sister uses their SMS4NET service which is rather good for dial-up, but can’t say it hasn’t been affected. Hopefully the concerned people will act fast to ratify this matter.
